How we handle data

sureigloo.com is a coverage desk, not a membership club and not a data broker. Salt Water Digital publishes it from British Columbia. This page is the honest version of what we see when you read, click, or write to us — written to match PIPEDA, B.C.’s PIPA, and Alberta’s PIPA where they apply.

Who keeps the lights on

Salt Water Digital is a Vancouver marketing partnership. It can be paid when a labelled partner page sends you onward. It is not an insurer, not a brokerage, and it does not keep a file on your home or your driving record.

What actually lands in our logs

Most visits leave only the usual technical dust: IP address, browser, device, the page you opened, a rough location from the IP, and the site you came from. We may store a cookie that remembers you already waved the cookie banner away. If you email the desk, we keep the address and the message long enough to answer. If you use the coverage check, we look at answers on your device to show a summary; we do not open an account for you and we do not ask you to register to read.

We do not go looking for children under 13. If a parent thinks we have a child’s details, write us and we will delete them.

Why we keep any of it

To run the pages, keep them from falling over, remember your cookie choice, answer mail, measure whether a labelled partner click actually happened, and meet the law when we must. We do not sell lists of readers.

Consent, and how to take it back

Where the law wants a yes, we ask (the cookie strip is the obvious example). Running a public website also has a legitimate interest in staying secure. Optional cookies can be withdrawn by using the banner again, or by clearing your browser. Necessary cookies are how the desk stays in one piece.

When you leave for a partner

A labelled report may send you to someone else’s site. Their privacy notice takes over at the door. We may tell them that the click started here. That is attribution, not a dossier.

How long, and where

We keep technical logs only as long as they are useful for security and debugging, unless a statute says otherwise. Servers can sit in Canada or abroad with ordinary commercial safeguards. Using the desk means your data may be processed outside your province, still under Canadian privacy rules that apply to us.

What you can ask us for

You can ask what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us how we work. If consent was the reason we processed something optional, you can withdraw it. If our answer feels wrong, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, B.C.’s OIPC, or Alberta’s OIPC will take a complaint.
